Fish and Chips the Aftermath...
Fish and Chip hauntings in Tokyo...
Hello Hello!
It's been a few months now since 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' closed it's doors for the final time. We were overjoyed that by the time we shut up shop we had successfully received just under 30,000 visitors....wowzers! We were totally overjoyed at the wonderful response the project generated and also at the fantastic media support that we have continued to receive. The project was featured in more than 100+ point of press including published, online, radio and TV coverage and still it continues to pop up including most recently Austrianfashion.net's 2010 rundown of highlights!
Our collective of featured designers and contributors continue making giant strides in the fashion stakes and the past few months have seen exciting endeavours such as some of them winning NewGen sponsorship as well as a succession of London Fashion Week shows and some great brand and celebrity collaborations!
The curators have since gone onto some exciting projects... Polona is currently working with the contemporary team at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on the upcoming Yohji Yamamoto exhibition and Emma is working on a community based art project in Taipei following a recent stint as Artist in Residence and exhibitor in Japan.
Fish and Chips keeps popping up in all sorts of spooky forms....from sightings of the catalogue in a cafe in LA, to a Buddhist monk rocking the Fish and Chips tote bag around rural Japan and recent reports say a tie dye version of the bag was seen lurking around in Sydney!
We all had a ball working on the project thanks to the fantastic team and string of wonderful partners and supporters and we hope you keep checking up for any upcoming projects!

Talk by Mischa and the Final 24 hours!
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
A couple of days ago 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' hosted it's final public talk as part of the accompanying programme. Founding member of the renowned creative space, SHUNT Lounge in London and lecturer of theatre and critical theory at Goldsmiths College, Mischa Twitchin, jetted into Vienna to present a talk on 'The Importance of Alternative Venues'. Mischa is also a lighting designer and visiting lecturer at the English Faculty at the University of Cambridge. His previous work has included three projects based on Vienna so it was wonderful to have him in town and present an exciting talk on his experiences of working as part of a collective that inhabits an alternative platform. We were absolutely honoured to have him represent as part of 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' and hope that everyone who attended enjoyed his presentation.
Big THANK YOU to Mischa!
Also the last talk means that we are coming to the end of 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' here in Vienna. Tomorrow evening we will draw the final curtain and the project and all of it's entities will return to the UK. There is still a chance to catch the exhibition as tomorrow it will be open 10am-7pm and there is a bunch of catalogues, posters and bags remaining that need a new home, so please come along and support the project for one last time!

Our Contributor Jobot in Berlin!
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
Last week the exhibition curators went up to Berlin to catch up with one of the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' superstar contributors! Jobot has been a big supporter of the project since it's early days and offered her amazing writing talents to the accompanying publication that we produced.
Canadian born Jobot is a Berlin based journalist and music management maverick. Following 9 years working within the creative industries including fashion, music and writing in London, she relocated to Berlin where she continues to offer her eternal fountain of knowledge to emerging talent. Alongside managing a collective of up and coming artists she has contributed her musings to publications including Super Super magazine, BangBang Berlin and L'Exposure.
She is currently working with musician, Barbara Panther, an artist about to commence her upcoming tour of Germany, Russian Federation, Paris and the home of Fish and Chips, Vienna.
Jobot wrote an awesome piece on the relationship between fashion and music which is featured in our official Fish and Chips book that is available in the gallery! Check it out!
Also whilst in Berlin, there seemed to be a lot of chip orientated action....see our photos above as well as the lovely Jobot modelling her Fish and Chips, Twice Please?! bag around the streets of Berlin!
Don't forget, Fish and Chips closes on Sunday, so make sure you call in and see us and grab a copy of the catalogue and also the last chance to get your hands on one of our lovely bags!

Presentation: 'The Importance of Alternative Venues'
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
As the project commences it's final week we have one final treat in store for you! This upcoming Thursday, 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!', will be bringing one final event to Vienna in the form of a talk by Mischa Twitchin from the UK. Mischa will be discussing the importance of alternative venues within the Arts and this presentation is a must see for any art, design and theatre enthusiast and perfect for students of all ages.
'SHUNT collective and SHUNT Lounge co-founder Mischa Twitchin talks about a special project that has revitalised the London art and design scene, that has recently come to an abrupt end. Under London Bridge station, under Victorian arches, the most experimental in theatre, dance, performance, art, fashion and design happened. Few seasons ago as one of London Fashion Week official venues it has witnessed collections by Gareth Pugh and Nathan Jenden, the space has housed a promenade performance 'Tropicana' and 'Amato Saltone' by the collective, seen Madonna filming one of her videos, Akhe leave their mark on the space and Franko B and Ron Athey's 'Visions of Excess'. As well as offering a platform for young visual artists and designers, Shunt Lounge was also a perfect place for testing ideas and an opportunity of collaboration.'
The talk is free to attend and kicks off at 6pm on Thursday 9th September at 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' Everyone is welcome!
We look forward to seeing you there and joining us for one final fling before Fish and Chips closes it's doors for the last time and waves farewell to Vienna!

COMING SOON! Maja Mehle
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
We are really excited about the next feature of the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' accompanying programme. As part of our 'New Designer Showcase' platform we shall be introducing our visitors to our next participant, Maja Mehle, who will be taking over the temporary installation room in the gallery. Maja is a Slovenian designer currently living and working within the industry in the UK following her recent graduation from London’s prestigious Royal College of Art. Her work has been featured in publications such as Dazed Digital, Ponytail Magazine and Ribbed Magazine.
During her time at the college she won a number of awards and competitions and has worked with brands such as Oasis, Umbro and Thierry Mugler. Her final collection titled 'Tito and Me' is a combination of tailored and sportswear garments inspired by socialism, Balkan history, and Yugoslavian president Tito. She is combining traditional tailoring techiques and fabric such as wool and silk with sportswear shapes and details. One of the non-traditional tecniques used in her collection is digital print. Part of the garment is digitally printed with pixilation in a way darker part coming from the inside of the jacket to the outside into a lighter color. For this collection Maja created her own coat of arms, which was printed to dress and is used as a tag for this collection. Tito and me is a black and white memory of a uniformed socialistic childhood.
Maja will be taking over the showcase space as of this Friday,20th August, so be sure to pop into 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' to check out her work as it will be presented for a limited time only!

Temporary Showcase! Kid's Patchwork!
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
Today we changed our rotating showcase space to present the results of our recent workshops for kid's in cooperation with European youth organisation, JEF . Stage one of our workshops included a special theme promoting AIDS awareness and highlighting the work of organisation, Designers Against AIDS.
During these workshops the children were given the opportunity to create their own individual square that they could then contribute to a special patchwork that we were constructing to then hand over to DAA. Mixed in with the kid's patches were also contributions from some of our hosting designers Scott Ramsay Kyle and Pebelle and the exhibition curators, Emma Bell and Polona Dolzan. For the upcoming week the patchwork will be displayed as part of 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?! alongside some illustrations and designs created by the kid's during the workshops. Following it's showcase in the gallery we will be shipping the piece off to the DAA head office in Belgium.
We hope that you take the chance to come and check out the patchwork and the outcome of the fun and exciting workshops here at 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!'

Kid's Workshops ROUND 2!
images: Wolfgang Steiner
Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!
We have been enjoying a fun filled week as we presented our second round of exclusive kid's workshops in cooperation with the European youth organisation, JEF.
Here at Fish and Chips we offered a series of workshops based around the theme of being a designer and what goes on behind the scenes hosted in the gallery. Our second phase of this feature was titled "Being a Designer...What a crazy job!" and gave kid's the opportunity to attend and learn new skills for a two day period.
The concept was to offer an insight into the entire process of working within fashion from designing, to making, photoshoots and styling. All of the participants were set the brief of creating their own T-shirt as well as making accessories that they would then model at a closing catwalk show and shoot. The workshops were hosted and taught by the exhibition's curators, Emma Bell and Polona Dolzan, alongside Viennese designer Petra Kraeutner of Pebelle and Italian-American designer Josephine Rafaella Magno of MRJ.
From dyeing to applique and macrame to beading the kid's were given the chance to experiment with a range of techniques and crafts in anticipation of unveiling their creations. They also branched out into making their own jewellery and accessories including finger knitted scarves, Lady Gaga style hair bows and beaded necklaces teamed with their favourite items of clothing that they brought along. Following two days of great enthusiasm and dedication the group got to receive a make-over and a 'catwalk coaching' before taking to the runway to strut their stuff and throw out some poses to the audience!
Vienna based photographer, Wolfgang Steiner, offered his amazing skills and gave the children a chance to see a photographer at work as well as pose on the catwalk and participate in a live photoshoot.
Big thank you to JEF for supporting us and being part of creating a great experience for the attendees and also to the guys who worked alongside the team; Valentina, Chiara, Melanie and Patrick.
Check out some pictures of the catwalk finale from Wolfgang Steiner as well as a few of our behind the scenes action shots!
And now time for the catwalk!
Finally thank you to our wonderful participants who proved to be a great bunch of aspiring designers, it was an honour to have you guys as part of the project!
You can find the full set of images in our albums on the official 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' Facebook page HERE!!!
