Images Riitta in Vienna and her 'Snowflake' project. Hello from Fish and Chips HQ! Today 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' featured a special element of the accompanying programme in the form of Finnish artist, Riitta Ikonen. The London/ New York based performance artist presented an exclusive talk based around the story behind her work and journey as well as an insight into the concept behind her most recent work, a durational performance, that debuted at the opening of Fish and Chips, Twice Please?! last week. Image of Riitta's 'Walk through Wardrobe' at the TATE and speaking today at 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!', freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL. An MA Royal College of Art Graduate, Riitta's work is "concerned with the performance of images, through photography and costume design". Her work has been exhibited internationally including Moscow, New York, London and Amsterdam at prestigious institutions including TATE Britain. Today Riitta informed and entertained the audience through telling the history and background of her work as well as incorporating types of dress and objectification in performance. Her most recent durational performance explores the shared folklore between Britain and Austria represented by a Lipizzaner themed costume and through the medium of storytelling. Hello from the Fish and Chips Land! Over the past couple of weeks we have been honoured to have film-maker and art director, Margarita Louca, working with us at our HQ in Vienna. Margarita is one of our contributors representing the fashion film aspect of the concept as well as lending her incredible talents as art director of the official Fish and Chips, Twice please printed publication. She was also in town to welcome the much anticipated delivery of the catalogue as it made it's way from Slovenia into Vienna courtesy of one of our amazing partners, Grafika Gracer. Margarita has been working with Team Fish and Chips for several months from over in London and has created the showreel which is currently showing within the gallery as well as executing the amazing catalogue direction concept and graphics with panache. The catalogue which features a load of information about our designers and representing talents also boasts our exclusive photoshoot by Thom Will which is currently exhibited as part of the project. A selection of writing from supporters including Professor Alison J.Clark and Simon Smith, the British Ambassador to Austria at the British Embassy, Dr Wolfgang Waldner and a series of short pieces from members of the UK fashion industry. The publication is currently available from the freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL. Margarita Louca's film featuring Piers Atkinson's work that was mentioned earlier on the blog is currently screening in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Hello from the World of Fish and Chips! So after 6 months of planning and development, contemporary fashion exhibition, 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' finally opened it's doors to the public on Thursday 10th June 2010. With the entrance decked out in Union Jack flags, curators Emma Bell and Polona Dolzan unveiled their concept at the freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL in the MuseumsQuartier Wien. The space was transformed into a platform for design and multi-media talent hailing from London complete with a mammoth theatre featuring fashion film, a tea party of shoes and an array of pieces from the industry's most fashion forward designers. Post official press conference, followed an epic footfall at the gallery opening featuring MegaMegaMega DJs and a durational performance from Riitta Ikonen. Our official hotel partner, Le Meridien hosted our official afterparty seeing guests feasting on cupcakes and fish and chips to the sounds of Christian Candid of Klein Records and Pling Plong Klub as well as the Tingel Tangel DJs. Team Fish and Chips have since spent the weekend recovering after the past few months as well as hosting a string of our contributors that jetted into Vienna from London for the opening. Hello from Fish and Chips HQ.... Today has involved more trips out of town to collect vital elements for the exhibition as well as lots of getting crafty and hardcore construction work! Aside from that we ate some gourmet burritos during a well earned break and even indulged in a bit of dancing around a discoball in the freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL... On top of all the dancing and building we are super happy with the wonderful international press that 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' has been receiving over the past week....including ELLE Germany, Tendencias Spain, Red Bull's global RED BULLETIN magazine and Die Presse! Hello from the freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL!!! We have officially set up camp within the gallery that will be transformed into the world of Fish and Chips, Twice Please?! With the keys finally in our pocket there has been lots of building and making of stuff going on this week! The team have been working hard on transforming the space (with the help of the lovely guys at Redbull who sent us a load of product to keep the troops going!) and in other news our amazing Fish and Chips tote bags also arrived this week as you can see above! A road trip out of town with our wonderful assistant and aspiring designer, Anna, and one of the exhibition contributors, Russell Barratt, to pick up fabrics and trimmings saw us caught up in a real life Tornado...it was even on the news! With the car packed to the brim with materials and props we skidded to a halt to avoid a windswept picnic table dancing across the road! We even captured some of the damage on the camera as you can see! Another venture out of the MuseumsQuartier Wien saw us getting crafty in the DIY store whilst picking up supplies in preparation for the build...it resulted in us painting the tarmac pastel blue after a slippy can of paint took a tumble from our trolley!ooops!!! Hello! Sneak preview of what's in store....we are mega excited about the awesome video by one of our wonderful contributors, Margarita Louca that will be presented as part of the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' exhibition... Not only does this delight present the amazing talents of this London based filmmaker extraordinaire, it also features one of the incredible pieces that we will be exhibiting, Piers Atkinson's 'Vera' balaclava. The film features band, Wetdog's 'Wymmin's Final' track and was recently selected to premiere exclusively on Stereogum...we are honoured to have this beaut of a film as part of the exhibition! The Lowdown on Margarita who not only offered her talents as our contributing film-maker but, also worked as Art Director and designer of our upcoming publication that will accompany 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!'....
Margarita Louca has a multidisciplinary approach to her practice working as an illustrator, film-maker and art director and thrives on the variation and space to collaborate that this provides.
Having finished her BA in Graphic Design from Central St. Martins, she began working with the film production company Pundersons Gardens as a video editor. Margarita now works on a variety of documentary, commission and high-end fashion videos for clients ranging from SHOWstudio to Peter Pilotto.
She has showcased at exhibitions including STOLEN, Dark Horses and Untouched and her artwork and writing has collectively been featured in publications including LURVE, VICE UK/USA, Dazed and Confused, URA! and Wonderland. Hello from Fish and Chips HQ!!! Last week saw the much anticipated arrival of Russell, one of our wonderful contributors who jetted into Vienna from London! Random Bangle AKA Edinburgh born, Russell Barratt is an accessories and prop designer specialising in performance garments. His unique approach to textile creation and traditional crafts encapsulates a range of influences within his work including the 80’s era, Egypt, club culture, knotting and recycling. His work has included commissioned pieces for design collective, Maiden Britain, which was showcased at London Fashion Week as well as for Eska Mtungwazi as part of The Matthew Herbert Big Band. Aside from private commissions which have been featured in publications including; Notion, Random Magazine and Dazed Digital, his bold pieces are stocked at Soho boutique, Machine-A. www.randombangle.com As well as being one of our showcasing contributors he has also been offering his talents to the Vienna based Fish and Chips team. During his time here he has been working in the quartier21 studios making both his special custom piece for the exhibition as well as getting crafty with lots of exciting bits and pieces for the gallery! It's been an action packed week...deliveries galore of juicy products from our partners and sponsors in anticipation for the launch...the team has been working hard on a whole bunch of elements ready for the big opening! So as promised, a sneaky look into what went down behind the scenes on our exclusive shoot directed by the exhibition curators, Emma Bell and Polona Dolzan.... Huge thanks to our photograpy contributor, Thom Will, for jetting into town from London and the awesome team including make-up artist, Patrick Glatthaar, our beautiful model Hanna Kribbel @ Stella Models and of course our wonderful assistants: Alexandra Bondi de Antoni and Catherine Mudford. AND...of course all of our amazing designers and the MuseumsQuartier Wien for offering such a great location for the shoot! Lots of fun times on the shoot as well as battling the elements including tropical rainstorms... and of course...we put on a nice buffet-snack boxes and all!

Contemporary fashion exhibition and concept presenting the UK as a hub for international design talent.
The exhibition was directed and curated by British fashion designer, Emma Bell, and curator Polona Dolzan. It presented the industry's most forward thinking creatives including designers; Louise Gray, Charlie Le Mindu, Scott Ramsay Kyle,NOKI, Piers Atkinson, Dashing Tweeds, Louise Amstrup, Cooperative Designs, Nicholas Kirkwood and Craig Lawrence.
Also presented as part of this showcase were creative talents from complimenting industries including contributors from the fields of photography, fashion film, styling,illustration and animation.
The project was supported in co-operation with The British Embassy Vienna and The Federal Ministry for European Affairs alongside a selection of respected sponsors and media partners.
The exhibition was hosted at the
freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL, MuseumsQuartier, Vienna. It ran for 3 months June 10th 2010- September 12th 2010 and received just under 30,000 visitors.
